As we have previously written, new laws in Georgia prohibiting text messaging and internet use by all drivers, along with a total ban on cell phone use by those drivers under 18 years of age, went into effect today, July 1, 2010.
Violation of either law carries a penalty of $150, plus 1 point toward the driver's cumulative driving record. Drivers receiving more than 15 points in a two-year period are subject to license suspension.
